Drone/UAS Basic Level Training Course for Public Safety Officers/Units
Who Should Attend: Law Enforcement officers, investigators, crime scene technicians, traffic accident investigations, Special Weapons and Tactics Team and other Special Response Team officers, fire/rescue an emergency management personnel, and other agency personnel that may be involved in managing, operating or supporting unmanned/drone aerial flight operations in a department.
Course Description and Objectives:
Course Goal. This course will prepare the course participant to:
1. Understand with a working level of knowledge small UAS flight operations of Public UAS aircraft as authorized under the FAA Part 107 sUAS Remote Operator certificate.
2. Learn basic to intermediate level hands-on sUAS/drone flying skills
3. Introduce the attendee to best practices, techniques, tactics, policies and procedures of operating a Drone Aviation Program as a member of a public safety organization
4. Learn the legalities of operating a drone in support of law enforcement or other public safety missions
5. Learn about and participate in public safety drone operation exercise scenarios emphasizing aerial grid searches, Search And Rescue (SAR), observation of person(s)/point(s) of interest, special event over-watch, crime scene and accident investigations data collection, and more.
6. Be prepared to be more than a sUAS/Drone pilot/operator. The successful course participant will return with the knowledge to stand-up and/or support a Drone Aviation Program in their organization with the understanding of creating unit policy documents, in-house recurrent training programs, applying for Certificate of Waivers, maintenance inspection programs and more.
7. Special ‘live and virtual’ webinar briefing for agency Executives/Supervisors to inform them about drone capabilities, unit responsibilities, and Federal / NC State laws and regulations for operating a compliant Drone Aviation Unit.
Course Objectives. The successful Student graduate will be able to:
1. Display Knowledge of Federal and State Drone laws and regulations.
2. Know how to safely plan and operate a UAS/Drone as the Remote Pilot in Command (RPIC) or support an airborne Drone Operation as a Visual Observer (VO) mission crew member.
3. Know how to legally employee a drone in support of Law Enforcement or other Public Safety mission objectives.
4. Know the basic requirements to establish a safe and professionally operated Drone Aviation Program.
5. Understand and be able to perform basic law enforcement Tactical Flight Operation techniques tactics and procedures.
6. Be aware of criminal and non-criminal flight operations.
7. Display proficiency in planning, coordinating and leading various operational missions: aerial grid searches, search and rescue (SAR), observation of person(s)/point(s) of interest, special event over-watch, and crime scene and accident investigations data collection.
8. Introduce attendees to intermediate and advanced drone operation courses: Night Flight Operations; Drone Aerial Forensic Support; Basics of Thermal Imagery Sensors, and Tactical Team support.
9. Course ENDEX combines multiple tactical scenario exercises working in teams with other Public Safety Officers.
Course Requirements:
1) Students attending the course must possess an FAA Part 107 Remote UAS Operator certificate. ** If interested in attending this course as a student and the prospect does not possess a FAA Part 107 certificate, please contact the vendor for availability to attend the next vendor FAA Part 107 training course prior to attending the NCJA in-flight training. 2) Attendance is required at all academic class sessions, scheduled training flights, and tactical employment ‘scenario’ based exercises.

Comments:
The FAA Part 107 certificate is valid for a two (2) year period at which time the certificate holder must take ‘Recurrent Training’ on-line with the FAA to extend their currency for another 24-month period. There are no additional costs for the ‘FAA on-line Recurrency Training’
Course applicants that currently possess a current’ FAA Part 107 Remote UAS Operator certificate must provide their certificate number and date of issue at the time of course enrollment.

Course tuition can be paid by check / ACH (preferred) or credit card. Make checks payable to ‘Air Probe LLC‘. Registered with the NC State procurement system. Invoice and W9 issued upon request.

Course Fee: $1,250 payable to ‘Air Probe UAV’
Length of Course: Flight Training: 40 hours, 5 in-resident days; FAA Part 107 training (pre-requisite): 28 hours over four weeks, taught on-line prior to attending flight training (cost: $150; does not include testing fee paid to FAA vendor, PSI).

** Those requiring Part 107 training must register NLT August 2, 2021, for both FAA Part 107 training and the Basic Level Drone Flight course. FAA Part 107 (pre-requisite requirement) training course fee: $ 150.00. Testing fee is paid to the FAA/PSI and is separate, and not included.
Enrollment Limit: Minimum course enrollment required: Twelve (12) students; Maximum course enrollment: Sixteen (16) students.
